Come eventing with me
Hi, So I have just finished my first season of eventing!
I have always stuck more to the show jumping side of life whilst I was competing, but since I have taken over from Dad with Coolhorsesocks I must say our followers and supporters have influenced me! What a first season it has been.
This time last year, after all the Trade Shows had finished, I was approached by Archie’s lovely owners (@pjqueen789 & @pw_archie) to help out throughout the winter as one of the owners was about to be incapacitated with an operation. I was very fortunate to have found myself in a position where I could balance riding & working really well, as I was to help out with Archie half of the week, thinking I would have to ease this up as we came into the summer because of attending shows.
Well thanks to Covid I was able to carry on helping develop Archie!
Archie was very green this time last year, his owners had been focusing on Dressage, he hadn’t been out and done much as they’d only had him a short time. Initially he struggled to coordinate himself over a fence. Leap forward to the end of this season!
With the help of the Imogen from MS Team eventing, we have built up our jumping throughout the summer, jokingly I said ‘oh I would love to event him’ fast-forward a month or two and he’s entered into his first event! Deciding that it was best to enter him into the 70 to develop his education, not overwhelm him & make it feel very comfortable for both of us.
Now we are finishing our first season with 3 double clears at UA eventing!
Confession, our first event he was fab, but I made a very silly mistake of not looking at fence numbers across cross country whilst walking, as you can guess I missed a fence resulting in a big fat E. Lesson learnt!
Fast forward to last weekend, finding our correct rhythm we finished in second place with clear rounds in show jumping and cross country and a dressage score of 32. What a sense of achievement for all of us.
Thanks to the encouragement and positive support from everyone, we are aiming to step him up as the season starts next year.
